Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Therapy
Types of Machines
One Pressure CPAP Machine
These machines blow at a constant air pressure as prescribed by your physician (which is determined during the titration portion of your sleep study). This type of machine is the most commonly prescribed by sleep specialists.
BiLevels & BiPAPs
These machines blow at a higher pressure when you breathe in and a lower pressure when you breathe out. This makes exhaling against the air pressure of the machine easier and is a feature that may be necessary for some patients. Other types of BiPAPs such as BiPAP STs can breathe for you if your particular sleep disorder makes it difficult to do so on your own. Finally, there are AVAPS which will gradually adjust to match your current breathing patterns while you sleep.
Auto Adjusting CPAPs
Auto Adjusting CPAP Machines or APAPs, similar to AVAPS, will automatically adjust its air pressure based on your current breathing patterns. These advanced machines typically support a wider range of air flow settings, therapy tracking software and off-grid power options.
Travel-Sized Machines
Unlike in the past, today’s CPAP machines don’t have to be large and clunky. While most modern machines are “travel friendly,” there may be instances where you’ll want an even smaller unit out of necessity or convenience. Not only do such machines exist, but some are small enough to fit inside a large purse. Many of these machines also support both US and international power outlets.
